River City Rocks - a Benefit for Darfur On Saturday September 23rd, an impressive line up of national acts performed to help raise awareness about the tragedy taking place in the western Sudanese region, where humanitarian, security, and political status there is in crisis. Over 16 musicians and comedians where scheduled to take the stage at Brown's island. There was a ton of activities for the kids to enjoy, including a rock climbing wall and a giant gyrospere, there were 20 vendors present ready and eager to sell food and drinks. Unfortunately, the field was practically empty, one vendor said they were told close to 10,000 people were expected to attend, and he and the other vendors were at a complete loss. The hope for raising significant funds for the cause was also at a loss. There is much speculation as to why so little were in attendance, but the important issue is getting the word out and raising awareness to help the people of Sudan who are faced with famine and violence.
